West Hockey this weekend 5/6 April (01.04.08)
Our commiserations to Wimborne Wayfarers who lost 3-1 in the Semi-finals of the England Hockey Men’s Vase at UCL Academicals on Sunday.

This weekend sees the final weekend of the League season for our Slazenger EHL Clubs and the West Women’s League – and what a weekend it promises to be with many promotion and relegation issues going to the last game!

On Saturday, in the EHL Women’s Premier Division, 5th placed Clifton will be following up their excellent 5-4 victory over champions Slough with a trip to 4th placed Olton & West Warwicks, whilst in the South Division, Firebrands travel to bottom side Woking needing a better result than Horsham to avoid an extension to their season with the ‘lottery’ of the play-offs. Firebrands and Horsham both currently have the same points and goal difference – Horsham have a home match against Sevenoaks. Taunton Vale recorded a 6-0 victory at Woking on Saturday and finish off with a home clash with St Austell before their return to the West League next season. Bournemouth host St Albans and Exe entertain Swansea in the remaining fixtures – all EHL matches on Saturday start at 12 noon.

In the West Women's League on Saturday, the League title will be decided at table toppers Lansdown who host 2nd placed Team Bath Buccaneers. Team Bath Buccs will need a victory with a goal difference of at least 2 goals to overtake Lansdown. The League winners will then go into the play-offs with the other regional league winners and either Horsham or Firebrands.

Good luck to all Clubs involved in promotion or relegation matches this weekend.

Sunday will be an action packed day of hockey for many...

In the EHL Men’s Division One, 5th placed Team Bath Buccaneers travel to 6th placed Bournville. Team Bath Buccs still have an outside chance of making the promotion play-offs but they rely on three other results going in their favour which, on paper, does not look likely. In the South Division, University of Exeter were crowned Champions following their 6-0 thrashing of Bromley & Beckenham and finish their league campaign with a trip to Whitchurch. Firebrands entertain Sevenoaks whilst fellow Bristolians, Robinsons, complete their first season in the EHL needing a victory at home to third placed Holcombe and for Bromley & Beckenham to lose at already relegated University of Cambridge to avoid having to save their EHL status through the play offs. All matches start at 2pm on Sunday.

Sunday also sees a feast of Quarter or Semi-final matches in England Hockey National Knock-Out Competitions. Our best wishes go to the following Club teams as they look to keep the West flag flying:

Plymouth Marjon travel to Ipswich
Men’s Veterans Plate Semi-final
